Configuration Backup & Restore for Modern Tenant Governance

Microsoft tenant configurations are not static. They evolve constantly β€” through policy updates, security changes, conditional access adjustments, and operational tuning, etc.

At the same time, end customers increasingly expect

πŸ”Ž traceability,
πŸ”„ recoverability, and
πŸ›‘οΈ configuration drift control

as part of managed services.

The February 2026 Plentics release introduces powerful new Backup and Restore capabilities within Tenant Management β€” enabling MSPs to safeguard, replicate, and restore Microsoft tenant configurations with confidence.

Backup Configurations – Now with Multiple Storage Targets

Plentics now supports backing up configurations to three distinct targets :

1. Tenant

Works as before: Creates a new configuration in the target tenant without group assignments.

2. Local Machine

Download configurations directly as:

  • JSON (single configuration)

  • ZIP (multiple configurations)

This enables external storage, audit archiving, or integration into customer documentation workflows.

3. Plentics Cloud Storage

Configurations can now be securely stored in Plentics Suite Azure storage as JSON files.

This adds a centralized, managed storage option β€” reducing dependency on local processes while enabling structured backup governance.

Restoring Backups is as Easy as Before

Correspondingly, restoring configurations from any of these sources in the Restore view is just as straightforward β€” ensuring fast and controlled recovery whenever needed.

Configuration Drift Management – A New MSP Opportunity

Many end customers now include requirements for:

πŸ” Configuration traceability
βͺ Rollback capability
βš–οΈ Change governance
πŸ›‘οΈ Recovery assurance

With these new capabilities, MSPs can now formalize Configuration Backup & Restore as a service offering β€” potentially as a separately priced add-on.

This is not just operational tooling. It is a business enabler for modern tenant governance.

Clearer Logging – Full Action Transparency

Tenant Management logs are now separated into two distinct tabs :

  • Tenant – tenant-related configuration changes and actions

  • Backup – backup-related actions and entries

Restore actions appear under the Tenant log, ensuring configuration-impacting changes are visible where they belong.

This separation improves clarity during audits and internal reviews.

Expanded Policy Support – Authentication Strengths

Tenant Management now supports migrating Authentication Strengths configurations .

Conditional Access migration has also been updated to correctly map custom Authentication Strengths references (e.g., β€œRequire authentication strength” grant control).

Plentics continues to expand the set of supported policy types based on customer feedback β€” strengthening tenant standardization and security governance.

Dynamic Alerts – Custom Alert Text

Dynamic Alerts now support configurable alert text included in email notifications .

This allows MSPs to add:

  • Action instructions

  • Escalation guidance

  • Response playbooks

Currently, custom alert text configuration is handled via Plentics Support.

A new Dynamic Alerts and Reports (DAR) UI is planned for 2026 H1, enabling full configuration management for the capability.

Platform Improvements

As part of this release, we have also implemented general improvements to:

  • Service automation

  • Scalability

  • Error handling

Why This Release Matters

This update strengthens three core areas for MSPs:

  1. Governance & compliance readiness

  2. Operational recoverability and drift control

  3. Service packaging opportunities

Configuration Backup & Restore transforms Tenant Management from a migration tool into a governance platform.
